The un-naked mannequin
I went out to a movie today and I found these mannequins covered up with newspaper. I wonder what is wrong or offensive about displaying a naked piece of plastic? Is the human body really that offensive? Actually as far as I am concerned I find this whole so called morality thing a bit funny. Who are these people trying to protect, I mean everyone has seen a naked human body! In any case this was not even a body just a blob of plastic in human shape.
So what were the people at this shop thinking? I mean why cover up the poor mannequins with newspapers if you are a clothing store! The whole idea of having a display is to display your products! May be they do not really have something worth displaying so this is perhaps not the best place to shop for clothes. I am really a bit curious if these mannequins are really all that realistic below the newspapers. It would be interesting to buy one just to see how it looks like au naturel.

Ahh, age old Indian (North mostly) prudishness, on the one hand we salivate over scantily clad ‘goris’ in music videos and on the other hand we cannot bear to be seen looking at a naked mannequin ….
Sometimes I feel a Mallika Sherawat in every state is the kind of revolution India needs …. 😉

I can not say about South India, I have never been there. Do you suppose they have uncovered store mannequins there?

Realistic? not really.. Mannequins just look like giant sized more conventionally proportioned Barbie dolls. 🙂 If that sort of thing worries you regarding dirty thoughts, you should also campaign that Barbie dolls come with their clothes super-glued on. 😉 After all, young children could be corrupted by the feminine contours of a little plastic doll as well!

I have definitely seen uncovered ones in Mumbai … imagine you’ll find them in Bangalore too …
You’ve never been to South India ??? You should definitely check out the south-west coast (Kerala and coastal Karnataka) …. quite beautiful …
If you are more into culture, AP is the state to go for, it actually is the state with the highest number of incoming domestic tourists, although nature wise it doesnt have that much to offer.

@ vikram : Naked mannequins in bombay and bangalore. Hmmmm. So they do not have any good clothes to show off either!

Odzer, may be the store owner is worried about friends who may want to borrow his mannequins! May be he is a bit possessive…mannequins are always in great shape.
